Events and Activities

While CCOCA is a Melbourne based club, its aim is to provide the highest possible level of services to members from other states, or who live overseas.

There are State representatives in NSW, ACT and Western Australia whose contact details are included in Contacts and in each issue of Front Drive, with those of Committee members.

Where possible, we organise our annual Austraction rally (sometimes mis-spelt Oztraction) either in a state other than Victoria, or near a border. This event is usually held over the Victorian Queens Birthday June long weekend.

With other Australian Citroën clubs, we take turns in organising the National Citroën Rally, usually held over the Easter Break, which is held in the state of the organising club.

Victorian members may find it convenient to attend meetings currently held at the Canterbury Sports Ground, cnr Guildford and Chatham Roads, Canterbury (Melways Map 46 ref F10) at 8.00 pm on the fourth Wednesday of every month except December. Speakers, videos, committee reports, competitions, and just plain socialising - these meeting offer something for everyone.

A Calendar of events, some jointly organised with the CCCV, and including events organised by other motoring bodies, is included in A-Tractions and publicised in Front Drive.

The Cars
In 1992, Thoroughbred and Classic Cars listed only 13 Citroën models in their price guide. Today, over 20 Citroën listings are presented. Top class examples of many Citroën models have exhibited increases in valuation far in excess of contemporary cars in price guides detailed in the classic motoring press.

Classic Citroëns include not only Traction Avant and vintage models, but also A, D, G series along with the CX, Visa and SM models. In the recent Car of the Century event, Traction Avant, 2CV and D Citroëns were included in the popular list of 100 best cars, all three made it to the last 26, and one, the DS, was voted third by the international jury.

The Club

The Citroën Classic Owners Club of Australia Inc was formed in 1978 when the Traction register of the Citroën Car Club of Victoria broke away from the CCCV to better cater for Traction owners requirements for restoration skills, technical advice and Spare Parts.

Today, CCOCA and CCCV work together to further the profile of the marque, provide activities and services for their members by jointly organising events such as the annual concours d'elegance, and a variety of day runs and other social and technical events.

Members of CCOCA own the full range of Citroëns, from vintage rear wheel drive to the latest Xantias and Xsaras. CCOCA has almost 200 members, with representation from every state and territory of Australia, as well as from New Zealand, France, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, United Kingdom and United States of America.

CCOCA has formed strong and mutually beneficial links with the Australian importer of Citroën as well as with local dealers and Citroën specialists, which improves our knowledge of Citroën's new marketing initiatives as well as advertising revenue and sponsorships.

CCOCA is an incorporated body, whose finances are independently audited, and whose revenue is directed to the benefit of members in providing social and technical events and services which are accessible to members by phone, mail fax or email wherever they are in Australia, such as spare parts supply, a club magazine, library and club shop.

CCOCA's Constitution lists the Objects of the Club as:

  • to foster, promote and encourage the restoration, preservation and maintenance of classic Citroëns;
  • to create opportunities for, and to encourage the development of, social intercourse between the members and between other persons or bodies interested in fostering appreciation of classic Citroëns and otherwise promote the objects set out above;
  • generally to organise and direct such activities as shall be appropriate for giving expression to the interests of members or for carrying out any of the above objects.

The club year runs from 3 March and Annual General Meetings held on the fourth Wednesday of March of each year.
